Starting a project: which building type to pick

Guides · 1 view · 0 replies
This is a starter post, written by the Floors & Frames team so you can find answers from day one. Replies from members are welcome.

Every project starts from New project (top right of Home, or on the Projects page). The first step asks for the name, client, site location and units, then the Building type. Pick the one closest to what you are drawing; everything it makes is ordinary walls and rooms you can change.

  • Generic residential home: any house, G to G+2, 1 to 6 bedrooms, pooja room, garage, or stilt parking under the house. Start here if unsure.
  • Bungalow: single storey, 2 to 4 bedrooms.
  • Kerala-style home: single storey with a sit-out and a steep tiled hip roof.
  • Villa (G+1): living, dining and guest room below, bedrooms and family lounge above.
  • Apartment block: flats round a stair and lobby, 1 to 4 flats a floor, G+1 to G+7, optional stilt parking.
  • Office and Shopping complex: commercial buildings with a stair core.
  • Blank plan: draw it yourself, on a plot or on a clean sheet.

Templates then ask for the Site (facing, roads, plot size, setbacks) and the Layout (floors, bedrooms and so on, with an optional Vastu arrangement and a live preview). A blank plan asks for the Plot only.

Step-by-step guides for each one

  • Stilt parking and a floor above, for a client
  • A single-storey house on a plot
  • A G+1 or G+2 home
  • An apartment block with stilt parking
  • Your own design on a plot, from a blank plan
  • An office or shopping complex
