Starting from a blank plan instead of a template

Templates are quick, but sometimes you want a clean sheet.

1. New project → Blank plan.
2. Press W for the Wall tool and click corner to corner. Hold Shift to keep to 15° steps. Press Esc to stop.
3. Or press R for the Room tool and drag a rectangle: you get four walls and a named room in one go.
4. Type exact sizes in the properties panel on the right.

Turn Snap to grid and Snap to walls on or off from the view controls if snapping gets in your way.
